Went to Gaithersburg, Maryland to make a presentation. Walked during the presentation and in airports enough to make 10,000 steps. For the second day in a row, did not do a focused exercise period so there was no real playlist for the day.

Healing: A Tribute

Touching wisdom from Elisabeth Sophia Lee. Honored to be her friend.
“I always wondered how she was able to give so much when she had so little to offer. But, as I have grown, I have come to understand that her selflessness was liberating. It was as positive for her as it was for those she was serving. It gave her complete freedom to find goodness in all people, and in every circumstance. I try everyday to follow suit in this practice. In alleviating myself of the “self,” I have lifted off a lot of the fear I once possessed, and in turn I have become a kinder, more compassionate person.’

A color I am thankful for

Food

It should come as no surprise that purple is the color. Thanks to the saints of First Presbyterian Church of Whitestone for a purple birthday party.

Traci Smith, author of Faithful Families: Creating Sacred Moments at Home has provided a gift of the November 2018 Gratitude Every Day calendar. I am using it as an opportuity to revisit photos and post them as they speak to gratitude.

Removing the Burden of Shame: Sexual Assault in Asian-American Communities

” Just because we do not share our experiences publicly does not mean that Asian Americans are immune to sexual violence. Just because we carry the burden for decades doesn’t make our experiences untrue. Just because we do not share our stories doesn’t mean that we need to continue to live in shame.” Read the Rev. Dr. Grace Ji-Sun Kim’s post on responding to sexual assault in Asian-American communities.

No matter who

No matter who you are:
It is not OK to mock a person who has reported a sexual assault.
It is reprehensible to mock a person who has reported a sexual assault.
It is sin to mock a person who has reported a sexual assault.
No matter who you are or who the speaker is:
It is not OK to laugh and cheer when someone mocks a person who has reported a sexual assault.
It is reprehensible to laugh and cheer when someone mocks a person who has reported a sexual assault.
It is sin to laugh and cheer when someone mocks a person who has reported a sexual assault.
No matter who!

Walk in the Light

Thanks to the Rev. Marci Auld Glass, pastor of Southminster Presbyterian Church in Boise, ID for this sermon about bodies, the 223rd General Assembly (2018) of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the separation of families on the border, and justice, love, peace, and hope.
“Our faith calls us to care for these children, being housed in cages, as if they were our very own. Because they are. Our faith calls us to also recognize our connection to the people putting children in cages. Because they are our own too.”

1 John 1

Who, exactly, was Jesus?

Was he a teacher who said some cool stuff, a healer who healed some folk, but was pretty much just like you and me—maybe a wiser version of the best of humanity?

Was he God, himself, come down from the clouds of heaven on a lightning bolt to walk among us, but not really be like us? Did he just appear to be human, a divine hologram, but was actually all divine, angel, glory filled awesomeness?

Was he somehow both? Fully human. Fully God.

There is a struggle in the books of the Bible, contending for the nature of Jesus’ identity. It’s why we claim that the whole of scripture is God’s word to us, because it takes a lot of different voices for us to get a…
