The Until We Meet Again Tour – 29 August 2016

The Until We Meet Again Tour opened the day in the canyon lands of New York on a walking tour of Wall Street. A ferry ride to Governors Island followed for a visit that included the national monument and the newly opened The Hills. The day ended with a return to Community Food & Juice with Tricia, Nicole, Desi, and Boxster.

The Until We Meet Again Tour – 28 August 2016, part 2

The afternoon appearance of the Until We Meet Again Tour occurred at Central Park, an oft-visited and favorite venue. As with Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine, Tricia and I took a tour.

The park is great; the tour was good; but the guide failed to mention the destruction of Seneca Village, a community of African-Americans and Irish evicted to create the park.  Seneca Village was the only community of African-American property-owners for 19th-century New York.Their land was seized under eminent domain; the homes razed.

Central Park remains one of my favorite places in New York. But knowing of the dispossession of the Indigenous people and the people who lived in Seneca Village temper my understanding of the park and its meaning.

The Until We Meet Again Tour – 27 August 2016

The Until We Meet Again Tour made its first trip to the New York Botanical Garden. On a side note, waiting until this time to visit proved a mistake. The garden is amazing.

Back to the main story, numerous photos of flowers, trees, pine cones, bees, butterflies, and more were taken. Since it proved impossible to select one photo of the foliage or flying critters to represent the visit, this photo seemed most appropriate:

Accompanied by guest artist Tricia, the Until We Meet Again Tour played three stops today.

A walking tour of Chelsea Marketplace, the High Line, and the Meatpacking District began the day. The Hello Brooklyn cruise by the Circle Line came next. Fun Home rounded out the day.

The Until We Meet Again Tour – 25 August 2016, part 2

An effort to take the Until We Meet Again Tour to Governors Island in honor of the centennial of the National Parks failed because of timing. A trip to the Brooklyn Museum ensued. An exhibit of approximately 230 photographs related to sports, Who Shot Sports: A Photographic History, 1843 to the Present, proved inspiring and enjoyable.

The Until We Meet Again Tour – 25 August 2016, part 1

The anticipated venue proving unavailable, the Until We Meet Again Tour went to lunch at the North River Lobster Company. The experience included a 45-minute cruise on the Hudson. Others shared the river; tall buildings were on view.
