Old photographs

Old photographs

Dust accumulated
through years of storage brings
coughing and sneezing,
itching and wheezing.
Faded images stir
vibrant memories of
people and places,
life and love shared.
Sorrow and joy,
joy and sorrow
mingle with the dust.
And the question lingers:
why are there tears?

I will be walking 62 Miles in October

In memory of friends we have lost,
in honor of friends who have overcome,
in anticipation of friends who will receive the diagnosis,
I am taking part in the
American Cancer Society’s
Walk 62 Miles in October.
Watch for posts – starting October 1.
But you can get a jump on supporting this effort.

A prayer for friends longtime and new

A prayer for friends
God who exists in relationship,
God who creates us for relationship,
we thank you for friends
who enrich and bless our lives.
We thank you for long-term friends,
who when we meet after a time of separation,
it is as though we have never been apart.
We thank you for new friends
whom we have just met
and with whom we are beginning a relationship.
We thank you for friends
of every sort and tenure,
each a gift from you,
each a unique presence in our lives.
May we treat kindly and well
the companions who accompany
us on life’s journey.
We pray in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
