I wait and watch, write and wonder
as birds fly above the field
and clouds gather over Pedernal.
The wind increases,
freshening the air,
rustling the leaves of the trees,
whipping through what little hair I have.
I retreat to the
cover of the dining hall
as the wind increases,
the birds disappear
the temperature dips
and large drops of water
plummet from the sky
and plop on the ground
bringing and renewing life.

Pedernal has had more snow in its day.
Pedernal has had more snow recently.
Someday I hope to have a camera with me when I see that.
For now, that little strip gives Pedernal a slightly different look.

Georgia O’Keefe’s mountain
As so often happens,
when I looked through my pictures this evening,
I came across pictures of Ghost Ranch.
A picture of “Georgia O’Keefe’s mountain” spoke to me.
The colors and the time of year, I think.
This was taken in October of 2009.
For some reason, I played with the picture using iPhoto.
I suspect that with a better program I could have preserved some of the texture in the foreground.
Still, it is an intriguing view.
