I is for Imagine

Should you develop a jones for ice cream,
or many other treats
simply stop by the Cantina
where you can find your fill of sweets.

Of course you cannot see any ice cream
in this photo; the corner of the shake machine,
but no ice cream.

That’s why the word is “imagine.”

G is for Guitars

Inside and outside,
music plays a central role
in life on the ranch.

Courses focus on music.
Music fills the air when the community gathers
to worship,
to play.

The sounds
of strumming guitars
echo gently off red rock.

Beauty surrounds Ghost Ranch,
revealing itself on the journey,
inviting visitors to stop,
providing photo ops.

C is for Cross

The amphitheater provides space
for reflection,
worship,
and programming;
it also provides a reminder
of the faith
in which we are rooted.

Keep calm and carry on

Always on the lookout for interesting coffee mugs, I found this one over Christmas.

The story goes that the British government produced a posted with this message in 1939 – at the beginning of the Second World War. They intended to raise the morale of the British people in the face of war. However, the poster received little distribution at the time. Following its “rediscovery” in 2000, private companies have used it on a variety of products – including coffee mugs.

The message actually works in a number of settings.

See you along the Trail.

T is for Thistle

This one has posted before. I have tried to avoid repeats, but it continues to intrigue me. It grew outside of Tumbleweed where Tricia and I were staying this past summer. What struck me then and what has remains with me is how much this one plant  – not there by design but simply because of its tenacity – reveals. I wrote the following last summer and repost it here.

Unbidden,
a thistle grows in the yard,
a sturdy, prickly weed.
Unasked,
its green and purple hues
reveal
a simple mystery:
life,
death,
life to be,
triangle of eternity.

L is for Labyrinth

For some it serves as a spiritual discipline;

for some it provides nurture;

for some a place of reflection and inspiration.

Some find healing here,

some hope,

some grace.

During the summer of 2011,

the Ghost Ranch Service Corps

filled in holes,

trimmed weeds,

and repaired the path

for the Ghost Ranch

labyrinth.

K is for Kitchen Mesa

One view barely does Kitchen Mesa justice,

but only one image per post.

I, too, am a tourist

Last night the group from Missouri Union Presbytery that is taking part in a seminar at the Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations invited me to attend the Rockettes‘ performance at Radio City Music Hall.

Since I knew I would not make it to the gym, I walked there in order to make sure I got in my steps (I did!). The route took me past Rockefeller Center where the bright lights got me.

See you along the Trail.
