Purple flowers, Rocky Mountain National Park 3

Rocky Mountain National Park
9 July 2011

The journey through
Rocky Mountain National Park
continued.

At some point,
I learned that
National Park Rangers
enforce the speed limit.
But he was nice
and allowed a warning
to suffice.

This may have been before,
it may have been after;
for certain it is
a different spot in the park
and
a different shade of purple.

See you along the Trail.

Why I like New York 9 – fearless pigeons

I never dreamed I would say anything good about pigeons.

In the long ago days of my childhood, I remember my father going to great lengths to chase pigeons from the home they had made in our attic. They have never had a good rep with me since.

But today, while at the Church of the Covenant, I met the Stephanie or Steve, I couldn’t get close enough to determine that nor would I have known how to determine that if I had got close enough to do so) McQueen of pigeons – one cool customer who fearlessly gave me the eye as we shared the space.

I have not become a lover of pigeons, but I have a new-found respect.

Courtney

I recently attended the 2012 Churchwide Gathering of Presbyterian Women – a great event filled with the opportunity to meet new folks and to hang out with long-time friends. For me, that included Courtney Payne – who is recovering from an auto accident. Thanks to Stephanie Quintana for the photo.

See you – and Courtney – along the Trail.

Purple flowers, Rocky Mountain National Park 1

Rocky Mountain National Park
9 July 2011

During the summer of 2011,
I spent a couple of days in Rocky Mountain National Park
where I found many purple flowers –
even if I don’t know their names.

Several photos from that trip will follow over the next couple weeks.

See you along the Trail.

Purple flowers, Riverside Discovery Center, Scottsbluff

Riverside Discovery Center and Zoo
Scottsbluff, Nebraska
6 September 2010

The 2010 Great Plains Tour made its way through Nebraska.
There we paused to visit the small zoo in Scottsbluff.

Never did figure out why the town is called Scottsbluff
and the National Monument is called Scotts Bluff.

Of course I never tried.

See you along the Trail.

Perspective 2

A while back, when tempted to whine about the heat, I reflected on perspective with the help of some friends. Today, while touring the United Nations headquarters with a group from China I saw a t-shirt that further deepens my perspective on the challenges of life – the real challenges of life. The t-shirt hangs on the display about displacement – hangs there every day – hangs there every time I accompany a group on a tour. I see it every time. Today, though it spoke to me with a power not present before.

The photo lacks in quality – next time I will bring a better camera – but it conveys the message.

May all who share such hopes have them realized.

May I help answer these hopes of my sisters and brothers.

See you along the Trail.

Purple flowers, Denver Zoo 2

Denver Zoo

Spiders are not the only creatures
that enjoy the purple flowers of
the Denver Zoo.

The Denver Zoo
is not the only place where
bees enjoy purple flowers.

Ice cream, anyone?

Find the deal at the bottom of the page.

Today brought my first trip to Sweetie Fry ice cream shop in Cleveland Heights. On a hot and humid day, the peanut butter, coffee with caramel swirl, and French toast provided wonderful refreshment even if they did make for a fairly boring picture.

A variety of traditional and unique flavors fill the menu. Sorbets and sherbets also appear. The heat proved a bit much to order the fries although all reports affirm them as quite fine.

Sweetie Fry recently made it to the semi-finals of The Plain Dealer’s Ice Cream Playoffs. Friends of the owner voted – friends of mine voted.

That brings me to the deal. Should you and I ever be in Cleveland Heights at the same time, let me know. I will get you to Sweetie Fry and allow you the pleasure of buying me some great ice cream.

See you along the Trail.

Purple flowers, Denver Zoo

Denver Zoo
Denver, Colorado
1 September 2010

The Denver Zoo marked the beginning of
the 2010 trek Tricia and I made to
the Great Plains.

We enjoyed viewing the flowers:
the spiders enjoyed living in them.

See you along the Trail.
